How to draw up B12 (labeled as Methylcobalamin) Injections

Step by step instructions for how to prepare your B12 (labeled as Methylcobalamin) injections.


1. Wash your hands


2. Remove the plastic cap and wipe down the rubber stopper on the top of the bottle with an alcohol swab or cotton soaked with alcohol.

Do not remove the metal ring that holds the stopper in place.

3. Take the 3ml syringe out of the the package, remove tip cover avoiding contact with the tip of syringe.

Open the 27 gauge needle package without touching the open end of the needle.

Attach needle to syringe making sure it’s secure.

4. Pull back plunger and drawback air to the 1ml mark on the syringe.

Inject this air into the B12 (labeled as Methylcobalamin) vial. (This will make it easier to draw the B12 (labeled as Methylcobalamin).

5. Draw 1ml of the B12 (labeled as Methylcobalamin) into the syringe.

6. After drawing medication into syringe, you may now inject your medication into your preferred site.


7. Dispose of each syringe after its use by placing in a puncture proof container such as a coffee can or a sharps container to return to the clinic for disposal in a bio-waste container.

Final notes:

This medication is light sensitive, store in light free location or dark bag to protect from heat and light.

Tip 1: Keep syringe at eye level while drawing up your medication

Tip 2: If at any time it becomes difficult to draw up your medication, insert more air into the bottle; this makes it easier.
